iPod touch iPod Touch Error Message

I have an 8 gig 1st gen. iPod Touch. I have recently updated my itunes to iTunes 8, and now after i have updated the first time i tried to sync my ipod with itunes 8 i get an error message.

Here is the message

iTunes could not connect to this iPod because an unknown error occured (0xE8000001)

I have a mac OS 10.4.11

Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this?

try holding the alt(option) key while clicking restore
then select the firmware bundle you want to use under /Username (your username)/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates
