apparently I didn't understand the wifi triangulation system in the Ipod touch. The triangulation also works apparently with cell phone towers which creates something like an a-gps system in a cell phone.....

I have searched through the forums regarding this subject and I hate to beat this dead horse.

I have both a MiFi and a WinMobile phone. I recently discovered a bit of software called WMWifiRouter which allows me to use my phone as portable hotspot.

Now I specifically got the MiFi to use with my iPod touch (3rd gen) and in doing so I have noticed that when I turn my portable wireless networks on, the iPod touch correctly locates me where I am. Since my MiFi moves with me in my pocket, how is my iPod Touch getting information on where I am? Is it somehow communicating that info through the WiFi? This can't be the WiFi triangulation at work since my "hotspots" are constantly on the move.

I repeated this with my windows mobile phone, with the exact same results, I believe the Where App (which lets you know about thing around you) had my location down to the exact restaurant parking lot that I was standing in at the time.

the locations provided are remarkably accurate, I have been located within a one block radius in many different cities.
What could be causing this?
