Hi,

Just wanted to know what is the size of a HD 720p Video? Say an hour? or a minute?

Thanks :)

A few megabytes. Pixar shorts in 720p are about 50 megabytes for a 5 minute film, so I'd say around 10 for a minute. Multiply by any time to get longer ones.

I don't have a sample of 720p video from the iPt 4, but I do from the iPhone 4, I'd image they're similar.

Video is recorded at 10,000kilobit/s and audio at 64kilobitsb/s, equal to 1288.2 kilobytes/s.

So just time 1288.2 by seconds and divide by 1024 for megabytes.

1 minute: 75.5mb
10 minutes: 755mb
1 hour: 4.5GB

So an hours video recording, full HD on ipod touch 4g is 4.5gb?? wow :) lol I was thinking of getting the 8GB version .... Should be okay i suppose

8GB would be squishing data and pushing the memory to the max.

With the firmware and everything its only 6.5GB, that would leave 2 GB for apps and music  even for the casual music listener, that is not enough room.

Just wait for the 5g, they MAY start the capacity at 16GB which would be a huge bonus. Plus the better camera and processor makes the 5G worth waiting for.

I checked my iPod Touch, and found 1 minute 720P movie will take about 220M space...

hmm ye its 6.5gb out of the box right? So I would have 2gb for music, 3gb for apps and I only have 1.5gb for video? wow I didn't realise that..

Is it a good chance the 5g will get a better camera? Will it be priced higher than 4g or at same price?

It's mostly the compression algorithm you use(d) that makes the size of a movie fragment. I'm guessing that you're not intending to use the iPod's camera for HD filming - cause that's not going to work ):

?? Well obviously im intending on using the camera, its the reason why its there..... wierd...?

In my experience, about 13 minutes of recording is equal to 1GB. i have an app that lets me change the resolution and video quality though, its called MultiCorder (i think it's $2.99? i got it while it was 99 cents).

Seems right , I always thought it was 12 minutes of recording for 1GB,close enough.
it's indeed 720p, but the quality is awful ... (in my opinion) I wouldn't film anything with it :p

True, @OP you should wait for an updated ipod touch if you want to use it for filming and pictures. 0.7 Megapixels, (MP doesn't matter as much as it did) Anyone will know 1MP even with a good sensor will not be that good of a camera for pictures and videos.
