Hi - my son's PC lost all his photos after a virus cleanup but they are still on his ipod. How can we upload them back to the (fixed) PC? Apple shop recommended Music Rescue, but iTunes does not seem to 'see' the photos. Any recommendations?

If you don't mind paying, there seem to be utilities out there:

http://www.bestshareware.net/tansee-ipod-photo-transfer.htm

http://www.PodPhotoTransfer.com/

The last one is freeware.

On a windows machine- windows sees the iPod Touch as a USB drive, you can just click on the icon and drill down into the folders and the pics are there to copy. I download screencaps from it that way with no problem.

I believe that only works for screencaps and photos you saved onto the touch from safari or email attachments.

And while there may be ways to recover the photos, as suggested by a previous poster, the photos would have been reduced in size and resolution when they were transferred to the ipod, so I'm afraid you wouldn't get back the photos in their original qualities.

I did not realize that, thanks.

Thanks for the advice. I am not sure what a screencap is, however it did seem to be willing to upload eg. graphics from music and stuff from internet, but as I say not the photos. So will keep trying.

screencap = Screen Capture. Basically a picture of what you are seeing on the iPod at that particular moment. To take a screen capture Press and hold the Top button, and then press the home bottom at the bottom. you will see the screen flash white, and hear a camera noise letting you know its been taken an saved.
