If I buy a 32GB Black iPod Touch now in the Apple Online Store, it will come with iOS 5 pre-installed?

Thanks in advance, Cata :)

Quoted For Truth and

Yes it does.

Except for the fact that downloading can take several hours even if free.

I downloaded both the new iTunes and iOS 5 and had my MBP and iPod updated in about 45 minutes total yesterday. Maybe I beat the rush. But it shouldn't be taking that long to update, provided everything is in working order and your bandwidth is modern and decent (cable, Fios, etc).

Nope it does not, well the one I have doesn't.

You can check settings for firmware, if you dont have it just download iOS with itunes and upgrade.

It should, at least that was my understanding from the keynote that by the iPhone 4S launch would have iOS on the iPod touch. I bought an iPod touch on the day after the keynote, it still had iOS 4 then, but that's to be expected.

Honestly the upgrade process isn't that bad, although being able to start up without syncing is pretty nice.

It depends on how long the store has had it. IOS 5 has only been around for a little while. It is a free upgrade though.

Am guessing if you bought it online from Apple, it will.

A friend was planning to buy a black 32G and discovered the Apple stores in Chicago are selling that model for $299 without iOS5 installed while Target and Best Buy are selling the same model (sans iOS5) for $275.

Apple store personnel will not do the upgrade, at least while there are still long lines for the iPhone 4S, so Best Buy got the sale.

They won't ever update, they will wait for the old stock to sell out.

i ordered my iPod touch 64 GB from apple store online on Oct 12 and it was delivered to me today and i can confirm it came with iOS 5 out of the box :) the screen on the box shows the iOS 5 icons and back of the box says requires iTunes 10.5 and Apple Copyright Logo says 2011. I am syncing it right now and it is definitely iOS 5!

How many times and different ways do you need to ask this question, Cata?

Furthermore -- why does it matter? You can download it for free; I did it yesterday.

Downloading is indeed free, but some of us are on data plans that charge for usage over a monthly allowance.

So, if you can get the device with ios5 already installed, it releaves you of having to use your data allowance, and any hassles that MIGHT happen while trying to do the upgrade.

I actually had the same question this morning, and was about ready to call APPLE online to make sure.

Lastly, just because the question has been asked before, doesn't meant YOU have to necessarily get annoyed and feel it your responsibilty to answer the OP. Just move on to the next comment or thread.
