I am going to get the touch but is 8gb enough or do I need a 16gb

I use it for music and games and apps

umm, apps don't take up that much space, but ur music might. i have no idea how big ur music library is. btw, u don't actually have like 8 gb of space. more like around 6.5 gb of space. the missing space is occupied by the firmware and the differences in advertised capacity and the way that software reads capacity( 1gb is 1024mb as opposed to 1000mb). one last thing to consider is that videos take upa lot of space, as does lossless music.

II have an 8 GB touch, with about 2.5 GB of space left. About 3.9 GB of Music, 200 MB in Apps or so, and about 500 MB in photo's.

It depends on how much music you have and what bit rate it's at.

This is the formatted space on iPod Touch:
(These figures may be slightly higher or lower for different people)

8gb Touch
-New: 7.1 gb
-Jailbroken: 6.1 gb
16gb Touch
-New: 14.8 gb
-Jailbroken 13.8 gb(maybe)
32gb Touch
-New: 30 gb
-Jailbroken: 29 gb (again, I can't be sure)

Hope I have helped someone.

Well with the screen being a bit larger, movies are nice. They'll fill up an 8GB quickly. I'll be in the position to get a freebie and I think it's worth it to pay the extra $70 for at a minimum, 16GB.

In my experience, if you're gonna use your touch for music games and apps then 8gb will be plenty big. I have an 8gb touch, and I have 12 movies, 83 songs, 34 photos, and 61 apps and still have over 300mb free space.

As a number of other posters have pointed out, it depends on what you use it for. If you like music and have a large iTunes library, 8 GB will not be enough. Likewise, movies, pictures and podcasts will fill it easily. If you don't have much to put on it (unlikely), then go for 8 GB.

My personal recommendation would be to get as large a memory as you think you will need - and add to it. So, I'd suggest you get 16GB - at least.

Cheers and good luck
