iPod touch iPod Touch iTunes/AppStore abroad

I'm going to pick up an iPod touch in the next couple of days. However, I got thinking about the iTunes wifi store and the appstore on the touch itself. I live in Belgium but I have no interest in using it's iTunes store. I use the US/UK ones on my laptop. Can I choose which store I want to browse or does it detect it based on location?

Are screen imperfections (dead pixels etc) common?
