iPod touch Ipod Touch Model #A1213

I have this Device with 1.1.4 version of iOS on it with 8 Gb, black color.

It was synced earlier with a mac-book's iTune 9.1.1[12] . It has some music/song and few Old pictures. Since years, the macbook and itunes have been to many changes.
If i upgrade the firmware to 3.1.3 , would my pictures be gone too off from this device.

I want to save those images/pictures to a USB drive.

I am warned that If i sync this device with iTune or other computer, all data will be replaced with the current. In other words, my pictures will be gone as well as songs.

What are my options?

right click on your ipod's name and click back up, then find a freeware to backup your entire ipod(including all media on your ipod) since the back up feature in itunes only saves a couple stuff such as home screen layout and such but not the media. try searching in google backup ipod or something
