iPod touch ipod touch not syncing

hey guys trying to put some new games on my boys ipod and when i plug it into my macbook it starts charging but doesnt sync, and doesnt register as a device on the left side toolbar like it used to, anybody have any ideas what i can do to fix this?

Restart both the iPod and the computer. If it still isn't working, update to the latest version of iTunes.
