Hi Guys,

When I plug USB cable I get the white apple for a minute or so,
then blank screen and nothing else.

It is not recognised in itunes or else.

Ive tried some resetting as suggested but it doesnt seem to work.
I left it on charge for 24hrs but no signs of life.

Is there any hard reset of sort I could do to bring it back to life?

tks..Im quite frustrated lately... and my iphone needs service as well!
 Mr. Jobs...pls dont mess around!

Are you absolutely sure the cable isn't defective?

If you haven't already done it . . . press and hold the home and sleep buttons simultaneously until the white Apple logo appears.

I've tried that several times as well..
no luck.
is there any way to make a total reset apart from holding home and on/off button?

Not that I know of. The only time I've run into this problem it was the USB cable. Time for a trip to the Genius.
