iPod touch ipod touch not working with new computer

I got a new computer this weekend, a toshiba satellite and i cant get the computer to recognize that my ipod touch 2G is plugged in. ive tried all 3 USB ports and 2 different cord and nothing, i even went in the control panel and manually did a search and it still didnt see it, and itunes doesnt see it either. it worked fine on my old computer which was a gateway something or other as well as working fine on my old dell, inspiron i think. i dont know what to do. HELP PLEASE!

thanks. i havent had a chance to read it yet but will. i figured out it will charge before it loads windows (I have windows 7 btw) but when it loads up its like it doesnt exist.
