iPod touch iPod Touch Price?

So I was look at getting an iPhone but I can't because I'm on a two year contract with verizion and I'm stuck with android(which is really that bad, just wish I had FroYo or Gingerbread). Anyways, after hearing a small rumor that said Verizion will get a version the iPhone in Janurary I got pretty excited.(except for that fact I won't be able to get it for two years unless I pay a ****-load more. So I decided to look for an iPod Touch because my iPod Nano is close to biting the dust. But I noticed a HUGE difference in price.

iPhone 4: $200-$300
iPod Touch 4G:$230-$400

But isn't the iPhone 4 basically the iPod Touch, but a phone as well? So why then is the iPod Touch a good $100-$200 more?

When buying iPhone on contract you are getting a lower price because the provider will be making a lot of money from you during the course of a 2 year contract. So they offer a low price with a long commitment. Buy it off contract and I assure you the price won't be close.

Touch doubles iPhones capacity on the highest capacity of 64 gigs vs 32 for iPhone.

iphone is sold on contract for $200...if you buy it off contract, then you have to pay around $600 for it...and there's no contract with ipod...that's why its cheap

IIRC doesn't the overall cost of an iPhone come out to like $1800, between initial cost + possible security deposit + monthly bill for 2 years?

All above posts are correct.

You pay more for fulfilling your contract and buying the iPhone on a GSM provider, or for the purchase of an unlocked iPhone (aka a 5MP iPod touch).

The cheapest AT&T plan with only 200MB is about 60 a month with taxes, no texting included.

Plus activation fee over 24 months you are looking at just under 1500 dollars, plus 200/300+tax for the device. So now you are in the 1750-1850 range. iPod Touch is 229/299/399+ Tax and thats it.

iphone without contract is 600/700+ tax.

the iPod itself is inferior to the iPhone as well, hardware wise. Lower quality camera, display, no phone radio (obviously), glass, etc.
