Last night it froze with the mail app open so I turned the power off and left it alone. Today the screen is not working! There is sound when I sync it and I can see the volume image when I adjust that, but nothing else. I can tell it's on because of the backlighting. What could be the problem?

BTW, it is a 2nd generation 8GB that is less than 2 months old.

Ok, I am currently restoring it and it appears to be working (but taking a while). Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening in the future?

If an App freezes try pressing and holding the Home button for six seconds to force quit the App.

If that doesn't work press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Power button at the same time until you see the Apple logo. You are doing a forced reboot of the touch.
