iPod touch Ipod Touch, screen how easy to crack?

I have a 2nd gen Touch. I am thinking of getting the new Switcheasy case. Right now I use a flip case that is a bit bulky and is not designed for the 2nd gen (I bought it for my 1st gen). What worries me is that I toss my Touch into my backpack frequently when I am not listening to it. Without a flip case to protect the screen it feels awfully naked. How much abuse can the Touch take? I am mostly worried about dropping my backpack a bit too hard causing the earbuds to crack the screen.

It's more likely that the plastic earbuds will shatter before any major damage is done to the screen.

It's just like normal glass, it can take stress up to a certain point. I wouldn't recommend dropping it at all, though.

If you drop a brick on it, it would crack.
