is there a way for apple to track my serial number once its plugged into iTunes to find out who stole it?

I know its a long shot, but this is the second time in less than a year i've had one stolen (nano stolen in November)...

Any help anyone can provide would be awesome!

I don't think so. File a police report anyway, you never know when stolen
property may turn up and get returned to you.

If you have Mobile me and once the thief goes online, it's possible to locate the device, send it a message or erase it.

Yeah, do you have a MobileMe account set up on your iPod touch? If so you can use the new Find My iPod Touch feature in 3.0, given that you've purchased and upgraded to 3.0.

This is why Apple should not charge iPod touch users for upgrades, and perhaps bundle MobileMe with iPhones??:)
