Hello guys, today I got my old iPod Touch 2G I did a full restore (firmware 4.2.1_8C148) and decided to flash the latest whited00r version to do so I needed to put the ipod on DFU mode, I tried the "common" way pressing the buttons with the correct timing but after trying many times and watching\reading many tutorials I couldn't make it to work (after doing the steps needed I could hear my pc recognizing something but iTunes never recognized the ipod) so I tried to find another way to put it in DFU mode and I found this guide: http://www.ipadforums.net/threads/how-to-activate-dfu-mode-when-you-have-a-broken-button.82925/
I followed the guide (I used this firmware iPod2,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw) and I think my ipod is in dfu mode loop, my itunes still doesn't recognize it, when I plug it in my pc recognize it but nothing pops up and the ipod stays black. I'm stuck here and I don't know what to do to make it work again, any ideas?

Those things can be a pain, I've put Whited00r on my 2G before, though I ended up on stock 3.1.3 jailbroken.

Anyway, I'd give RecBoot a try, it can exit DFU/recovery loops. If not, tiny umbrella has a function to get out of DFU loops as well. It happens sometimes.

Thanks for the tips, I wanted to try RecBoot but I'm missing so many dll's, I downloaded like 10 by hand and it keeps asking me for more, do have a link which contains all the dlls needed for it to work or maybe you know how many he needs? (RecBoot seems to have an Exit Recovery loop option only but yeah I wanted to give it a try anyways).
I wanted to try TinyUmbrella too because it seemed to be the best tool for my situation, I downloaded the latest version (tinyumbrella-7.11.00) but when I launch it say: Veryfying Libraries -> Unable to validate libraries... loading anyway -> Reticulating splines. After that pop up window nothing happens, I think it auto-close itself or something. I uninstalled java and reinstalled the latest version but still get the same. Any idea about how to make it work?

I think I will still try Whited00r if I can fix this problem but yeah right now main concern is to make it work again eheh

Interesting, they're both working fine on my Mac. And I've used them in Windows a number of times. Let me fire up my Win 7 VM and check if it's working. I just grabbed a copy from here.

It almost sounds like your Windows install may have some issues. Could be an issue with the registry and unregistered DLLs or something. I've had to use regsvr32 a few times to get stuff up and running. Sometimes it's an issue with .NET however.

I'll try on my vanilla Win 7 install and see if it throws a fit.

EDIT, no DLL issues, however it's got exepctions due to a folder permissions/missing issue. May be something that changed in iTunes for Windows... Let's try tiny umbrella.

And tiny umbrella won't get through the installer. Nice.

Good ol' Windows and somewhat iffy software is at it again!

It looks like I downloaded an older version of Recboot, I downloaded the one from your link and it works with the same exepctions pop ups, but yeah it doesn't recognize my ipod -> RecBoot @ 23:44:00 -> connect - fail

I forgot to mention I have Windows 8.1 Professional, tried again Tiny Umbrella in compatibility mode both with win 7 and win xp mode and I get the same result :/

Update:
I used method 2 of this guide: http://moh2rescue.blogfa.com/post/1/TinyUmbrella-Fails-to-start
and now my Tiny Umbrella works, problem is that it doesn't detect my ipod so my question is, what the hell happened to my ipod?
Screen is just black everytime, if I plug it in the pc I hear the "plugged in" sound from the pc but nothing changes, if while plugged I hold power+home for like 10 seconds I hear the "plugged out" sound and if after that I release power button and keep holding home button (I think this is the way you usually put a device in dfu mode) I hear the plugged in sound after like 10 more seconds but yet again nothing happens. Any ideas\suggestions\whatever?

These two methods work without any problem on my Mac book Air and also my PC running with Windows 8. Perhaps you should download Recboot and put your iPod Touch into DFU mode. Recboot is the easiest way to do it. Besides, use TinyUmbrella to save SHSH blobs from your Cydia. I'll recommend to reinstall your Windows if it still not working for you.
