I am not I pod touch savvy. I have a question re: the ipod touch. I want to buy 8GB ipod touch through eBay because they are inexpensive. my hesitation are the following:
1. can a used device serial number be stolen??
2. the battery inside has gone diminished or bad charge??
3. if I enter my e-mail in the used ipod touch is there a way the old owner steals my passwords and e-mails? in addition to using it through the wi- fi internet through the router? they can look in through it?

I want one with a camera. I don't care about condition. should I pay the retail price for the I pod touch or risk buying used and being compromised ?

Unless it's the last generation I wouldn't bother as they are slow as hell.

As for your questions

1, won't matter really
2, ask the seller what the battery is like
3, only if it's jail broken and a third party app is installed. Your more likely to come across stolen iCloud locked devices to be honest

I just checked the apple site. at the $199 price point for a 16gb I might just buy a new one.
the last ipod touch I bought new was in 2010 or 2011, are the ones now a days far better?

The current generation shares the iPhone 6 components so it's nice and fast. The last generation was based on the iPhone 5.
