ipod touch upgrade or wait for Verizon iphone?

I have a 3rd gen ipod touch. With holiday specials coming up, I would like to upgrade to 4th gen ipod touch for better screen and larger capacity. Current 3rd gen ipod touch is workable, but capacity at 8 gb is low.

However, I have an old cell phone and would switch promptly to iphone when
(as expected by many) a Verizon iphone is available this winter (2011). The desired screen and capacity could come with the phone.
