iPod touch iPod Touch Version

It has been some time since I purchased my iPod Touch. How do I find out which generation I have?

Does it have volume controls on the side of the device? If not it's a first generation. You said you had it for a while so I'm assuming you don't have the 4th generation (The one with a camera) If the above said is true you either have an iPod Touch 2nd generation or 3rd generation. Apparently the "8GB" or the size of your iPod Touch is smaller on the 3rd generation than the 2nd generation. Maybe compare two pictures of the two backs and see which one is yours.

Options

No volume buttons = 1st gen

No camera + 8GB or 16GB w/volume = 2nd gen

No camera + 64gb = 3rd gen

No camera + 32gb w/volume = 2nd or 3rd gen (GOOGLE your model number on the back and it should tell you)

Camera = 4th gen

Thanks for the help guys. Knew I could get help here. I also found out that by going to Apple's Support page and enter my serial number, it tells you what generation and all the specs for it.
