Hey, I just wanted to let you guys know that the folks working on VoIP for the iPod Touch are closing the loop on their project. They found a compatible mic, which has been able to send WAVs using Nikotalkie (an app designed for the iPhone) to a mailbox.

On the software side of things, they have SIP working, so now it's only a matter of time before the loose ends are tied up and its given a nice, glossy interface. :D

For more info on the project or to join the team, visit tuaw.

This would actually be really cool on an iPhone; then one could buy an iPhone, unlock it, and use it for making VoIP calls without any contract.

People would actually use this? Whats the point? Everyone owns a cell phone, i just dont get what the appeal is when you need to be in range of WiFi to use it. Just doesnt seem practical.

You no longer need to worry about wifi hotspots to use VOIP

i will add it, jus gona find it

Don't misunderstand, it's about iPod Touch, then we need a mic.

I can't wait till New Years Day, I'll be sure to donate to the creators even though the download is free.
