I'm about to buy an ipod touch, but have some questions.

Its going to replace a nano which I gave to my brother. I used it a lot in the gym, as well as running. I was wondering what people's experiences have been like in these situations. Do you put it in your pocket, did you get the arm band? Can you easily change songs while running etc? The flash drive is going to be good, but what about the usability.

I started using it in my pocket and it worked well for me, but then not all of my workout clothes had pockets so I had to get the armband and I actually prefer it because it takes the weight (light as it may be) out of my pocket while running. Changing songs on the fly isn't the easiest thing to do. You have to double tap the home button and then press the forward button on the touch screen so unless you get really good you have to look at it. I found that creating a great playlist for working out is key, I picked only fast songs that I loved and wouldn't want to skip while working out.

All this being said, the touch is the best thing I own so don't let interface while running deter you from buying one. If changing songs while running is a big deal pickup a Shuffle for $80 they are awesome from working out. Before I got my touch I used to clip my shuffle on the band of my sports watch to run.

I have an iPhone and I actually bought a separate nano for the gym. You might say that I'm wasteful, but it made sense to me. I don't use a case for that's compatible with an armband. I've done bicycle workouts with the phone, but its too clunky to be left in a pocket while running. Finally, I can't see navigating touch screen with sweaty hands being a fun experience. The screen gets greasy enough from just normal use. You'd definietly have to clean it after every workout.

i use mine for jogging, i create a playlist, shuffle it, and go. and to keep the headphones in...i wear a hat :D

I use mine at the gym everyday.
I connect the A/V cable to the serial port and then the 3 plugs into the monitor on the machine i use. e.g. bike, cross trainer etc. Then watch youtube clips on the larger LCD bike etc screens as the gym has wi-fi. Plug the headphones into the bike etc and it amplifies the sound

I just make sure i wipe my hands with a towel before using the button but using the scren has been fine :apple:

Where do you go to the gym? Next Generation?
I've decided against taking my iPod Touch to the gym. My Nano never recovered from falling from the dash, onto the treadmill and then fired at high speed into the wall behind me...
Yeah, big ol' dent in it now. Don't fancy doing that to my new Touch.

I have been using my touch at the gym for months now. I have had no problems. I bought a DLO Action Jacket for it and have it clipped to my waistband. I absolutely love it. It just takes some getting used to changing the songs when on the treadmill. I usually just clip it off my waist if I want to pick a different song or playlist. I highly recommend.:)

My personal opinion is that it's just too risky to take an iPod Touch to the gym so I don't go to the gym - instead I just use it on the couch in front of the TV.

Yeah it's Next Gen, you stalking me lol

I just put it in the water bottle holder. I don't watch the iTouch screen, i watch the screen on the bike ;)

My husband shocked me by getting me a Ipod Touch 8GB and the Timex IControl watch to control my IPOD while working out. I've done my research on the I-Control watch because I had only heard of it once before he bought it, but didn't pay it any attention because I had the Microsoft Zune and I knew it wasn't compatible. But now that I have received both as a gift (and I must sell my dear Zune...as bulky as it is, I loved getting 30GB of storage for only $99 at Circuit City on Black Friday). So I look forward to working out with my two new gadgets, although I must admit I will be glad when Timex or Nike comes out with the watch that can control your Ipod and is also a heart rate monitor.

love my touch at the gym. I set it on the dash when I use a machine and watch videos. May I reccomend a good pair of Bluetooth headphones as the perfect compliment to the touch? Then you can set it anywhere put in your pocket whatever with no wires in the way. I have a logitech set that work great and are light and super comfy

I used my 30gb but now that I have atouch I got a shuffle for when I work out. You can find a used shuffle on ebay or even here for like 40. Bucks the touch for you might just be to bulky. Either way get the touch its awesome!

Take one of these Bikes

and plug it in behind here.....

Then workout to a dance video directly from your iTouch and get healthier than the people next to you who are watching the news :D

That bike looks so cool, maybe I need to start back working out in my gym (vs at home) to see if they have upgraded their equipment.

How much does a pair of Bluetooth Logitech headphones cost? and they are compatible with the Touch?

Touch has bluetooth

I believed the iPod Touch didn't have bluetooth?

Pretty sure you can get wireless, but the sound quality is no good
