When I tried to upgrade form Pwned 2.01 to stock 2.2, my iPod froze up during the restore process. The exact part was when the loading bar was full beside the apple logo on my iPod's screen. Now my device is stuck in recovery mode and the restore process freezes up at the same place, no matter what firmware file I use or what mode I am in (DFU, Recovery).

I am running iTunes 8.04 on Windows XP SP3. I have tried two different USB ports. I do not have another computer right now to test it on, but will post back with results as soon as I can. I bought my iPod over a year ago so I cannot return it. Anyone have any ideas?

Pwned 2.0.1 to stock 2.2? Do you mean you have Jailbroken 2.0.1 and you're restoring to 2.2? Why don't you just hit "check for updates" on iTunes and it will update/restore your iPod Touch to the new 2.2 firmware. Then you can jailbreak it from there.

What processes are you going through to put your device into recovery/dfu mode.

Most people get those two confused. . .DFU mode will bypass anything and get you restored to the stock 2.2

A couple things you might want to try is making sure the ipsw firmware file isn't corrupt. There isn't an md5 hash I don't believe, so the only way to really be sure, is to re-download it.

I would try once with a direct download. . .and if that didn't work I would let iTunes download and try it(if you go in and delete the ipsw file from the itunes directory, it will re-download it for you when you click restore).

this video should help you get into DFU mode - http://www.appstoreapps.com/2008/09/22/iphone-tip-dfu-mode/

the correct DFU procedure is:

with the iPod plugged into pc the iPod should auto turn on. Hold down the home and sleep buttons till the screen goes off and let go.

wait a few seconds

hold the two buttons down again and count 10 seconds, when you get to 10 let go of the sleep button and keep the home button held down (for atleast 30 seconds) and eventually iTunes should then say it detected an iPod in recovery mode..... click restore and your good to go

Hello,

From what I've read you guys want the thread opener to enter dfu mode, there is not any need for this at all, DFU mode is only needed for pwning and certain other functions undocumented by apple. I believe if you click the normal restore button, I'll download a new ipsw and you'll be on your way, even if you did jailbreak you iPod

Hope this helps,
Clayton

No, the problem is that I am already in DFU mode when I try to restore, and it still wont work. I don't know what to do..

if u have the iTunes logo on screen then ur in recovery mode if the screen is as iff the iPod is off but iTunes detects it in recovery mode then ur in DFU mode

HELP PLEASE! NEW iPOD USER!

So, I just bought the 8gb iPod touch last night... I downloaded itunes onto the computer and got started with my ipod :) After adding some music on my it, i played around with it for awhile... (it was an awesome 20 mins.:() And continued to synch music files onto it. At first, I thought my ipod was just "frozen" because i was synching quite a few files at once. But I've tried restoring it many times and I keep getting the error msg. I've uninstalled/installed/updated my itunes a few times. I've pushed both buttons for twenty seconds, restarting my comp... And, my computer isn't even recognizing that it's plugged in the usb port-yet notices my bf's cheapo mp3 player!!! Itunes doesn't even show the ipod on the left side even though it did a half hour before. I'm desperate! Please help!!! Is it possible that from my music, I could have gotten a virus on it? I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO!!! Btw- on my ipod screen it has the usb logo+the itunes logo, thats it.

first off, what is the error message? have you tried to put it into dfu mode?

I will try it on another computer in fifteen minutes, but if that doesn't work, I don't know what to do.

ipod touch frozen at itunes screen

After trying several stuff, It work and I recovered my iPod Touch but you need the original firmware from a backup, thing I did not have so I get it downloaded from apple you can find them in google.

First do not use a customized windows, there may be windows services stripped or shutted down that iTunes needs to work, yes it is true, not joking.

Second unistall iTunes the one you have and get the lastest is version always better, if you have it do not matter uninstall it move your iTunes library to another place clean by hand your my documents so there is no trace of previous install, restart your computer and install iTunes again.

Do the pressing buttons stuff and plug your device to your PC.

With this windows will tell you that it has found an apple usb device in recovery mode, and iTunes will tell you to restore it, so press shift and click on restore button on iTunes it will ask you for the firmware, search for the backup this will make the ipod abandon the Itunes screen show the apple screen with a process bar from them on just follow the instructions your PC and iPod will tell, I try with no luck to jailbreak mine 3 times at least and always get error 1604 an get stuk on iTunes screen and thats the way I recover it every time.
