I have searched the threads and have not found an answer to this problem. I have a 16g 1st generation iPod touch that is not jailbroken. I plug my ipod in to charge it from a wall and the screen went black. I unplugged the iPod and attempted to a restart it pushing the home and top bottom, no luck. The screen then became white and went back to black and neither button worked. The ipod would not turn on. So when I got home, I attempted to restore it from my iMac. Plug it in and itunes stated your ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. So I clicked "ok". The apple logo came up on the ipod with a status bar. itunes stated "restoring ipod". The status bar got 3/4 of the way done and itunes message read "verifying ipod restore". 12 hours later, same message, and no further movement on the ipod status bar. I had to force quit itunes and restarted the computer and itunes. Attempted the same process again. This time, when the ipod got the apple logo and error popped up on itunes stating "unknown error, could not restore". Again, force quit itunes, restarted computer, and attempted a third time. Again the same thing happened the first time I did it with the status bar getting 3/4 of the way done and verifying ipod restore. 4 hours later, force quit and restart.
I am running the updated version of itunes and ipod. No idea how to fix it or if it can be fixed. Please, any information would be great. Thanks.
