iPod touch Ipod touch won't play a file

I got software that converted a .wmv file into a .mp4 format. I dragged the .mp4 format onto itunes. I then clicked sync but something showed up saying that my ipod cant play that type of file. Any help?

It may have too high a bitrate or resolution. Select the mp4 file in iTunes, then under the Advanced menu choose "Create iPod or iPhone Version." Then try to sync the file.

vidoe converter and DVD ripper

I have some DVDs that I want to put on my ipod because I dont want to rebuy them on itunes. Does anybody know any free software that rips the DVD and converts it to .mp4 format?
