iPod touch won't restore

My ipod touch was at 1.1.3 and i put it into recovery mode to downgrade to either 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 (different story) when it shows up in iTunes, it says it must be restored so i shift-click restore, select the 1.1.1 firmware and click enter. it extracts it but then gives the error that it can't be restored error -1. it also says the same thing for trying to do 1.1.2. once i get the error itunes seems to eject my ipod so i have to unplug and replug it in for it to repeat the same thing again. done this process at least 10-15 times. any help would be amazing
