ipod used as an external hard drive?

so i have a few questions. first if i was to buy, say an ipod classic could i install windows vista on it? and then boot from the ipod like it was an external? and second, i have a small amount of knowledge in installing hardware, and putting together computers but i have only done that on a pc, i have seen websites like http://eshop.macsales.com selling macbook hard drives, is it possible for me an average joe, install the hard drive on my own, or will i have to go find an apple store?

I don't think you'll be able to boot a Mac from an iPod with Vista installed, sorry. However, it is quite simple to change a MacBook hard drive, as shown in this guide.
