First of all: is this a European iPod? They have been limited by the firmware to meet EU (        ) regulations. If it is not, try selecting the songs which are quiet in iTunes and adjusting the volume there, and then re-sync the iPod and computer.

If it indeed is a European one, then there are some hacks to increase the maximum volume. If it's a 2G one, then it's even easier, just delete the "Limits" file (or rename it).

If it's not and you only have these problems with the iPod not iTunes, then either your iPod is defective or you should check your ears.

I guess you have a European one... mine is not that loud too(at least not as loud as my oldskool Sony Cassette Walkman :))

but I kind of like it, I actually keep the volume on 75% so I can still hear some ambient noise (I use the pod when I ride my bike through Muenster and otherwise it would be pretty dangerous because of the traffic and stuff...)

...and I won't demage my ears :D
