iPod iPod won't come up on iTunes but my 1st generation will

Sorry if I'm posting in a wrong place because it's about a Windows question!!

Well I have 2 iPods. I have a 2nd generation iPod nano, and I have a 1st generation iPod nano.

Well It started about 3 days ago. I wanted to put new songs on my 2nd generation iPod so I put the USB thing into my computer. But then, iTunes didn't come up!! But the weird thing is, that it charges when I connect it to the computer!

And another weird thing is that my 1st generation iPod nano, when I connect it, iTunes comes up and synchs songs!

I'm going on a trip on the 4th of July to my grandma's house and I would really really like to bring my 2nd generation iPod nano and not bring my 1st generation because the battery's really weak and I'll have to charge it every hour! Please help me with my iPod!!

If you have iTunes open, does it sync? Have you tried restarting the iPod and the computer?

Yes, I have tried all of the strategies. It just won't sync... iTunes won't do anything
