Okay, I have iPod 20 GB Click Wheel, eMac running OSX 10.3.9, iTunes 6. Today I imported about 10 CDs into my iTunes library. When I plugged in my iPod to update, nothing happened, iTunes didn't recognize it. I could not choose 'update ipod' from the file menu. Suddenly I started getting strange messages about how iPod was there but it couldn't recognize it or something.
I went through the disk utility to try and verify and/or repair, neither worked. So I re-installed iTunes and the latest iPod updater. I did a restore on the iPod, plugged it into the wall to reflash, and everything seemed to be okay. I started iTunes and the iPod icon was there (it seemed to be mounted) but it was not updating. Again, could not choose 'update ipod' from the file menu. so I dragged the 'library' icon down onto the 'ipod' icon and it started to update and reload my iPod with my 3,000+ songs in my iTunes library. Before it even got done with 'A' it froze up.
At a loss of what to do, I force quit iTunes. The iPod was still flashing 'do not disconnect' so I did a menu + select to reset. Unplugged it from the computer, restared iTunes, plugged the iPod back in. It started flashing 'do not disconnect' but was not mounted or recognized on either the hard drive or iTunes. I tried reset several times and the same thing kept happening. So I put it into disk mode and that did nothing.
Now it is stuck (in disk mode?) on a screen with a big check mark that says 'OK to disconnect.' Hard drive doesn't recognize it (no icon), iTunes doesn't recognize it, the iPod updater doesn't even recognize it. When i Click on the updater all it says is 'Plug in an iPod to update it.' It is plugged in! But it's stuck on a screen that with a big check mark that says 'OK to disconnect.'! What the heck is going on here?
