The title really says it all - I'm visiting California at the moment, and looking to get a new 32GB iPod touch. I'm hoping to avoid the 8.5% sales tax here, and so wondering if I can get it duty free when I fly back to London through the international terminal at San Francisco. Does anyone happen to know whether any shops sell it there? Or is there anyone flying out before September 30th who can check for me?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I recently flew to China through SFO, and I saw a Best Buy "Vending Machine" it had the then current iPod nano's in it (the square one) this was the only place I saw to buy something like that. I am not sure if it is duty free, but I can assure you that it is there, and it is in the International Terminal. Ask a worker there, they will probably be able to help you.

Didn't know that, I never look at vending machines unless I want a soda or some chips/candies :)

The thought of buying an iPod out of a vending machine seems so... wrong. :D

I agree.
The only iPod's I have seen in a vending machine are the fake ones.

Or you can go to a local Macy*s they have iPod vending machines in their stores.

WOW, OMFG, FJAIfojafjawe~~!!!!!!!111111111111111!
That is sooo weird!
I would have never in a million years...

I'd be scared that it would break on the drop down.

I'd be more scared of it acting like a normal vending machine.

You know, only working half the time, and eating your quarters - in this case your Franklins!

Try www.vanns.com 2 reasons
No sales tax
Free Shipping

I ordered my 42" plasma from there last year with NO problems. It's worth consideration.

Great idea - that never occurred to me. Unfortunately Vanns doesn't stock the 32GB model... do you know of any other sales tax free online stores which might do? I'm not sure I want to take a risk on a vending machine at SFO having one, especially as my old iPod has just died a sad death (funeral proceedings are underway) :(

I doubt that they have any of the new models in the machine right now.

I agree, or eating your credit card would be worse.

an ipod vending machine. is that not weird? also, is that not wrong?

Yes, it's very wrong in every way possible.

Maybe they don't have the 32GB model just yet - keep an eye out on their site for updates.

I also understand that amazon doesn't charge tax, but I don't have any experience in that regard
