iRig with guitarband on Macbook air

Hi,

I have just brought a Macbook air, and thought that I could use iRig witb guitar band to save money on a portable amplifier when I go off to uni

I tried it yesterday and it, one, only worked through headphones and two, there was a horrible amount of feedback.

So my question is, can I use the iRig via a macbook air with guitar band, instead of an amplifier + not playing through headphones only?

Any suggestions would be most welcome, thank you
