Ives made everything flat. But now when you look at the watch and the curved face it has highlights like the old icons. I can't believe he didn't see this in the design.

Wait what? It's a different design than any other smartwatch and apparently it's thinner than in the pictures on the Apple website :p

No I mean look at the pics of the watch face on Apples site. The way the glass curves to the sides it gives the face the highlights that the old icons did.

No, I'm serious. You don't notice a resemblance of the publicity pictures compared to the old Skeumorphic icons?

You mean the reflection bubble at the top? That was just added to the render and even the iPhone renders on Apple site have all sorts of highlights. They weren't trying to evoke anything related to Scott Forstall.

Scott Forstall was in charge of software, not hardware. If the app icons on the watch included the gloss then you'd have a point.

The crown itself is a skeumorphism! Jonny's argument against skeumorphism has been spotty at best. He took the leather off of ical but left the flip-cal icon. He took the reel-to-reel metaphor off the recording apps, but left the old-time capsule mic icons.

When did he argue against skuomorhpism? I'm mot aware that he's ever even used that word.
