The battery life on my early 2011 15" MBP (new Refurb) whilst playing the Sims 3 is only 1hr 20min from 100%!!

Is that about right?

You probably have all your settings maxed out in the options, and should be able to get some more life with some compromises, but battery life is never great for gaming.

Mac OS X or Bootcamp/Windows?

Mac OS X I'd say it's a little short.

Under Windows this is normal.

It depends. When you are playing The Sims 3 are you using the discrete GPU or the integrated GPU? The discrete GPU will greatly decrease your battery life. To see what's being used just download gfxstatus (something along those lines). A quick Google search will help you find it.

I only get about an hour playing Mass Effect 3 on my MBA.....I'm guessing with the larger screen it would use a bit more power...so sounds about right.

ah ok fair enough. Im using the radeon graphics card with high settings. Its no big deal ill just plug the cable in but was just checking to see if it was normal.

And its on Mac OSX

The only game I have on my 17 2011 is Unreal 2004 and I get roughly an hour and a half of fragging out of it with the brightness turned up and 6750m in use. Yup, you're fine.
