Does anyone know if it is possible to get a Firepro W8100 working in a 2012 Mac Pro? It uses the Hawaii architecture, like the R9 290 and 290X, and I know those will work.

AFAIK, from the Hawaii family of GPUs the one that is supported by Apple AMD drivers is the R9-290X with device ID 67B0, the Hawaii-XT. No support for any other of the Hawaii-GL based GPUs.

Maybe you can spoof the supported device ID via OC, but remember that this a GPU that the driver support ended with Monterey and works very poorly after that - Chrome and any other Electron based apps does not work anymore.

If you wanna read about, just open any MacPro6,1 + macOS after Monterey thread, the GPUs from the MacPro6,1 are also GCN and suffer the exact same issues.
