Just as the title says? I know the knock off won't be waterproof but what about shock resistance and the phone becoming scratched by the casig. Anyone have any experience with the knock offs?

Is the knockoffs significantly cheaper?
The Commuter is going for $17 USD
and the Defender $21 USD.

Agree with enmi.

Considering the low prices for the real deal, why get a knockoff of dubious quality?

I already bought it, I'm just asking so I know whether to keep using it or not. I dont want it to scratch my phone

From your original question it sounded as if you where considering buying it.

For the scratching question: Check the inside of the case, if it is all soft without any sharp plastic it should not be a problem. Also check the fit, is it tight or loose, if it is loose dirt can get inside and scratch the phone.

with a knockout there is no way of knowing whether it will scratch your phone or not until you've use it for some amount of time.

knock off has very poor qc. one case may be almost exact copy to the real thing and works perfectly, another may have hidden flaw that shows up with use, and another may just outright scratch your phone the moment you put it in.

It doesn't seem to be scratching it.. the plastic that the phone sits in is pretty tight. I will probably get the regular one anyways, it would make more sense to have it for when I'm hiking or at the beach.

thanks

I've got 2 knockoffs 5 bucks a piece from ebay (for iphone 3gs) and quality really depends... When your buying knockoffs the quality will vary quite a bit, the one for me had crappy silicone fit yet the one for my girlfriend was pretty much perfect (same seller). However after a drop the corner of hers broke off, although the case still worked and was fine. I woulnd't worry about scratches too much like others have said if thers no rough spots or sharp plastic bits coming out lol

definitely put in the extra dollars for the real Otterbox.

Had some bad experiences with knockoff OB cases from eBay. The fit/finish of them were really hit or miss and scratching was an issue. If you decide to use the case as your main case then you will most likely, get some scratching on the sides as I did. Like ^ said, it's best just to shell out some extra bucks for the real deal and know that your phone will be safe. Besides, the prices for most OB cases are pretty cheap from places like eBay, Amazon and other online retailers.
