Apple analyst Gene Munster says he thinks a new Apple TV could be launched this fall.

With WWDC just four months away (likely June 2015), we believe talk about an update to Apple TV (not a television) could pick up over the next few months

I can't wait to get new Apple TV. Munster talks about Web-based TV is a thing now like Sling TV.

This question gets asked at least once a month here. NO ONE besides those at Cupertino have the answer.

I seriously hope so. It needs 4K, and it also needs a processor upgrade. I'll buy it just for those two things 🙂

It needs apps. In NZ we are seeing more and more local SVOD, and while they work with iPad Airplay to ATV, it will be far better to have apps on ATV. There are apps, yes, but you cannot ask Apple to add an app, they invite you, so being an extremely large country (4.5 million) !!! thats hardly likely to happen.

If it did, we will have a do everything STB, and in NZ, an Apple TV is very limited in usefulness.

Why wait? It's $75 thru the refurb store. How little does it need to get to before you pull the trigger?

If it happens, it'll likely launch at WWDC. I predict that Apple will ask developers to add an AppleTV UI to their existing apps which would mean thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of apps available for the new AppleTV at launch.

The current AppleTV is extremely old and outdated and Apple is starting to take a beating from other boxes. I don't think Apple can wait any longer before they're simply crowded out of the market.
