Here's a question for you.

You can currently get mac pro's in quad or octo core. The quad core models have one processor. Is it possible to buy a quad core today, and say 6 months from now, (if you can find the parts) add the 2nd processor? Is there a good place to find parts like that?

Thanks!

Yeah, could you follow the rules and search? You can't possibly think you're the only one to ask this.

Wait for Nehalem to come out and buy one of those. They'll probably drop the quad-core entirely.

Yes its possible but if you even have to ask i wouldnt recommend doing it yourself, take it to the genius bar in an Apple store.

C'mon dude. Don't be cheap.

It's a $500 upgrade. It's peanuts. Just pull the trigger and buy it. It's a total PITA to try and find the correct HUGE Foxconn heatsink and thermal paste that they use. $500 is nothing, just pull the trigger and order it. You won't be saving yourself any money by "upgrading" later

For $500 you could buy it new from the apple store with the second processor already installed. I personally wouldn't want to possibly wreck my $2000+ machine, unless doing the upgrade yourself will be a lot cheaper. If you can find the right stuff and its cheaper, go for it.

Just been doing some (UK-HE) Pricing...

Building it with one 2.8 and adding another 2.8 = £250 ($500 increase)
Buying it separately is £700 ($1400!)

I think my plans of buying one is kinda down the toilet.

Hmmm.

Oh and even for the OLD mac pro, the quads are still £750 ($1500) each!

Buy the two from the off. Although Im waiting for the i7 Xeons first.

AHH! I meant 500 upgrade to just get it when you order the mac pro from Apple. Not DIY.
