Hey Guys,
I’d like your advice on something if I may. I’m currently using a MBP 16” (specs attached) with three LG 27UL850’s (4K, recommended resolution) along with the machines screen. I’m averaging the attached temperatures which are okay, (thoughts?) but obviously the cooler the better. During really hot days however I get CPU throttling (high ‘kernal_task’ CPU usage) to the point where the machine is unusable in this setup.
With the aim of still being able to use the setup in hot weather, I’ve had the thought of using an eGPU for the three monitors. I’m looking at the Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 650 as it will also allow me to charge the MBP which as you can see, isn’t as efficient as it could be. I’m using x3 TB3 for the monitors/charging without the 96W power adaptor.
a) Do you think this would this lower the machines temperature?
b) If so, which GPU would be suitable? I’m not carrying out anything more strenuous other than powering the monitors.
