If i run all my 20gig iTunes library on my external hard drive, is it dangerous for the eternal hard drive? Should i be better to juste kepp a security copy on it and run my library on my iMac? Will the lifetime be extended? And do anyone know if Time Machine makes the external hard drive always running? I'm planning to buy a MyBook Premium Edition 500gig by WD...

An external hard drive is no different than an internal on except the case it is in. So don't worry about it. An external drive can handle any amount of use you can throw at it.
