Although the MacBook really isn't the machine for me (much like the original MacBook Air wasn't), I'm pleased to see that Apple still acknowledges the advantages of a 16:10 aspect ratio in their notebooks.

I actually expected the MacBook Pros with Retina display to go 16:9, and then this new MacBook especially.

In case anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about, there are plenty of articles and discussions online about 16:10 vs 16:9 in notebooks. Here's an example.

I wish my 11" air was 16:10, the 16:9 aspect ration in one of my beefs with the 11" air.

I don't know, it doesn't bother me as much as it did back in 2010. I guess I am just more used to 16:9 screens now that it doesn't seem to be a shock to the system anymore.

Good point. For computers I prefer 16:10 and I'm glad apple is sticking with that...for now.

Apple are probably going to sell a lot more 16:9 Macbook Airs this year than they will sell this new Macbook, so I'm not sure you can say "committed".

But yes, OSX isn't set up to deal with small, wide screens very well so I'm glad the screen on this is 16:10. I just wish the Macbook Air had it too.

Yeah, I used to have an 11" air, and other than the paltry resolution my only complaint was the 16:9 display.

The 12" Macbook fixes that...but after switching to a rMBP I'm not ready to give up the performance for the ideal form factor.

Yes. That's what of my main beefs with my 11". I wish my iMac and all external monitors were still 16:10 too. My 21.5" Dell looks ridiculous.

Yes,16:9 is just a stupid ratio unless you use it solely to watch movies.

In the same vein, I wish they'd have stuck to something less elongated for the phone. It would be easier to use with one hand and make more sense for documents or photos or websites.

Yes! 16:9 work very well on larger screens like the iMac 27'', but 16:9 is impractical for notebooks/laptops.

I agree here. I dont understand all the comparisons to the pads. This is a better version of the AIR or should have been a redesign of that. You cant have AIRS and THIS both.

I prefer the 4:3 aspect ratio. imo 4:3 is better for word processing, spreadsheets and web browsing. imo Wider aspects are only good for watching wide-screen programming (eg movies etc).
