So my work is always about a year or two behind on phones and since I use their service for personal use as well I decided to pay for my own phone out of pocket so I can have new upgrades when I want. I've always been on 5Ge service with the 12PM and 13PM and just went with it thinking it's because my work isn't paying for 5G service until yesterday when I realized it's because they think I have an iPhone 8 Plus (my last phone I got from them) I went ahead and requested a new phone and got the 12 and figured I'd just swap out the SIM card to my 13PM like I always do until I just noticed they are using an eSIM now. I'm scared that I run the risk of being locked into the 12 by turning it on and not being able to transfer the eSIM to my 13PM. Do you think there is a possible lock on transferring eSIM's? I see from what I can tell as long as both phones are on the same iCloud it'll transfer.

If you want to swap SIM functionality, a physical SIM card is a simpler solution to swap between phones than eSIM. It’s idiot simple.
eSIMs can be swapped too - but as you’ve experienced, it’s scary.
I believe if you contact your cell provider and tell them that you want to go physical SIM card only, they’ll help you set it up.

It's not my carrier though. It's through my work so it's through the corporate account. I didn't want to have to get them involved.

Thinking of the procedures that I have to go through when adding eSIM or changing SIM, you will need access to the account in order to do it.

I don't see a way around that.

It's not hard to do, though, if you have access to the account so I suspect that your workplace will help you do it.

I have two lines on eSIM on one iPhone, so if an idiot like me can figure it out, well....
