I like new hardware, I like new software, I like both to play together with ease. Seems like it be a simple request. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case with Aperture and my MBP.
MBP specs are 2.16 ghz, 2 gb ram, 120 gb 5400 rpm drive(wasn't connected to the 30" at the time). I bought Aperture after it hit 1.1 to make sure I was getting UB goodness and updated as needed. My aperture library is 28.94 gb. I recently dumped my 4gb flash card of Nikon D200 raw goodness into aperture and was looking to view the pics and possibly do some minor modding. It seems like clicking on any picture causes the beachball of doom to come up and mock me for a few seconds at a time.
Let not us talk about if I even ponder minimizing aperture, then we are talking about the beach ball mocking me for even longer before granting my request. Granted I know a 7200 rpm drive would reduce this a bit but these load times just seems ridiculous giving the relative newness of the hardware I'm using. Am I expecting too much given the files i'm working with or is there something I can do to fix this? If the hardware truly is the factor I have no probs dumping this badboy and getting a Mac Pro(I plan to get one in Jan/Feb anyway but I want to keep both if the MBP can keep up with minor things like 15 mb RAW files) . Sorry for the rant, and any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
