I'm thinking about buying a 30" monitor (like today) and the only thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger is the fear that it will be replaced by something better or less expensive shortly.

Has anyone heard anything about a refresh for their 30" monitor ?

FWIW, I have a first-gen MacPro and plan to upgrade maybe at the end of the year (hoping they add a Blu-ray drive, new CPU, etc.) and I'll add a Radeon 285 GTX. My current MacPro has the piddly 1900XT which I doubt will offer great framerates when playing games at 2560x1600.

Thanks.

No idea... nobody has an idea

This refresh/update has been anticipated for so long that many are speculating that Apple will discontinue the 30" and only offer the 24"

If you need one, you should buy

It should have been done a long time ago.

Nobody knows for sure.

Personally I think if they are going to do it at all it will be announced in November along with the notebook refreshes because compatibility with notebooks is a major selling feature of the new(er) 24" LED display.

So many threads on this....

Eventually, yes. Any time soon - heck no. 30" LED panels are currently ~$2300, which doesn't even include the "Apple tax" ;)

Agreed.

Hopefully by WWDC 2010 though they will be out...

I've been holding out for a bit, but the Dell is looking more and more like the choice right now. I have 2 24" Dells and they're great.

It puzzles me that Apple isn't courting the customers who demand the largest displays with a more recent model. I've been tapping my fingers so long, waiting for them to update the 30-inch display, that I've worn a hole in the desk!

Which Dell model(s) do you have, Mr. Anderson?

30" LED panels are too expensive and there's no other reason to update really. Maybe sometime in 2010 when new Mac Pros comes.
