Or is there any other place selling them new and unlocked in the US?

No. AT&T is the only official carrier of the iPhone 3G S. You can try to get one unlocked on ebay or craiglist once it is launched.

Is the AT&T one locked or can one use other SIM cards in there?

so apple or at&t doesnt offer a 3G S unlocked? Even for a higher price? All iPhones 3G S officialy sold in the US are locked?

All are locked. They sell a no contract one at a higher price but it is LOCKED!

That suxx :X

Thanks for the info tho, looks like I have to order them from Italy.
And I thought Ill get one, while visiting the US this summer.

Your plan to buy them in another country is your best bet. If you were calling for the unlock code for a Motorola V400, that's one thing. However, calling for the unlock code for something that AT&T paid mucho dinero for exclusive rights to isn't happening anytime soon.
After the exclusivity contract ends in 2010 (assuming AT&T doesn't get an extension), you might be more likely to purchase an unlocked phone.

Nope. It doesn't work like this for the iPhone. It has be unlocked via hardware/software. You can also buy unlocked ones from other countries.

kewl. good to know. The 3g S will be my 1st iphone. I have used WM phones for the last 10 years and have always simply had to call for the code. Pop in a tmobile sim and enter the code.
