Is Apple selling the new Iphone 3G S unlocked in the US?

No. AT&T is the only official carrier of the iPhone 3G S. You can try to get one unlocked on ebay or craiglist once it is launched.

Nope. It doesn't work like this for the iPhone. It has be unlocked via hardware/software. You can also buy unlocked ones from other countries.

And theres no unlock codes to be inputed anywhere.
Most likelly though there will be hack to software unlock the 3G soon. I dont know about the 3GS though.

Your plan to buy them in another country is your best bet. If you were calling for the unlock code for a Motorola V400, that's one thing. However, calling for the unlock code for something that AT&T paid mucho dinero for exclusive rights to isn't happening anytime soon.
After the exclusivity contract ends in 2010 (assuming AT&T doesn't get an extension), you might be more likely to purchase an unlocked phone.

kewl. good to know. The 3g S will be my 1st iphone. I have used WM phones for the last 10 years and have always simply had to call for the code. Pop in a tmobile sim and enter the code.
And in Belgium, Italy, New Zealand and Australia, to name a few more countries.
