First off, only apple fans can get this excited by an online store NOT WORKING. Modern servers require no real downtime to get things uploaded. I was pondering this the other day and today just came across this link which helped validate my thoughts. I'm not really sure either way... Any thoughts of your own?

Yes, it's all part of Apple's marketing strategy. I mean, imagine if Amazon went down every time they added a product.

Hehe, I kind of agree. Surely there is no other website that goes down and draws near this much attention. It's certainly free publicity, especially when every tech news site picks it up and provides all the hype for free.

Yes, but who else, apart from Apple "fans" would know this?
For other people it is just another website "down" for a while.

It is not like Apple have a banner saying "we are updating and OMG adding great new products!"

More like preaching to the converted… ;)

No because any one who really notices that it is down would be the sort to buy their products anyway. I think its just to increase our (the obsessed fan)excitment. Most people don't care.

Amazing though, that despite being down for >2 hours, some stores are still showing inaccurate or old info. It makes you wonder
