Is Apple really vested in this Touch strip for the higher end MBP's?
I know we can get a 13" without the touch strip, but any rumors about doing without it for the 15"?

Has Apple done any DT, user centered testing/research on this? I would love a 15" MBP without the touch strip and the extra cost.
Hope there is some inside info out there.
thanks,
Doug

this is a great questions...I dont think they will back track and remove it but how can they incorporate Face ID into the Mac. seems easy to just get rid of the touch bar.

Oh. ya, I didn't even think about FaceID. I think I'd prefer proximity login. Meaning distance iPhone or iWatch from MacOSX device.

Not sure that FaceID could work with the space available in the MacBook Pro lid but TouchID would be a suitable enhancement. FaceID makes sense in the iMac though.

Maybe they will do a version without it but I sort of doubt it I doubt it will be any cheaper either.

Who knows?

Best bet is probably yes, so we're unlikely to see it go away.

We can hope for a less expensive 15" without one, but don't hold your breath.

There are at least two active threads discussing exactly this, you might be interested in looking there to see different opinions. The fact is: we don't know :)

We don't know but I fully expect them to phase it out in a few generations. It has not proven to be a good feature. It does not improve on just having physical keys to do the standard things it supports and it has little love from 3rd party developers. It doesn't make sense to anyone who does not look at their keyboard when typing.

I sense that we'll see the touchbar just disappear from future MacBooks.
Maybe not until 2019 or 2020.

It was one of those "this looks like a great idea!" concepts... that ended up not being nearly so useful or desirable "in the real world"...
