I’ve had an AW S3 since launch, and as much as I enjoy using it, it’s incredibly slow, especially when it comes to updating.
I’m thinking about upgrading to the new S5, as I really like the new larger display that they brought out last year.
Is the S4 or S5 substantially faster than the S3?

S3 can actually update fairly quickly (around 30 min.) if you turn off bluetooth, forcing it to use the faster wi-fi. The steps have to be done in the right order:
1. Start the software update
2. In System Preferences (not CC), disable bluetooth
3. Return to Watch app, which will alert you about the disabled bluetooth
4. Tap cancel

faster updating?

how often do you update?
I updated anytime there's an update available.
It's not really a big problem, I'll usually leave it running overnight, but I have noticed that anything to do with updates on the AW is incredibly slow.
I'd be upgrading in any case, I was just curious whether the slowness during updates is something that affects all watches, or only the older ones.

Thanks, I'll try this out next time!
