I have an iPhone 3g and am trading it with a relative for a 3gs. I have apple care for the 3g, is there a way for me to transfer the AppleCare from the 3g to the 3gs? Or must I buy a new AppleCare plan?

The Applecare follows the phone so If you sell it you can transfer the applecare to the new owner which you need to write to them and let them know the info is in your applecare agreement. Its pretty simple have done it many times with laptops and imacs.

No you CANNOT transfer apple care to other units. Unless you have apple replace your 3g under apple care. You cannot buy apple care for the 3g, then transfer it to your 3gs.
You CAN transfer applecare through to a different party. Say if you sold the iphone 3g with applecare, it will follow the phone for the length of the plan.

Way to read the thread, not just the title.

No, Applecare stays to the registered products serial that was originally put on to.
You'll have to buy a new Applecare for a new/different phone or product.
