is AppleCare with loss/theft worth it for the $3.50 extra per month?(compared to without loss/theft)

I have it on my plan. But only you can answer if you’re comfortable paying for AppleCare yet not being covered for those contingencies.

I'm willing to bet that if I sign up for Applecare WITHOUT theft/loss, I'll be robbed of my phone in a matter of days. And... if I get it with theft/loss, I'll never experience being robber ever again.

Several years ago, I got tired of shoveling snow and bought a nice self-propelled Honda snow blower. For the next 3 to 4 years, my area didn't get more than half an inch of snow in the winter. My neighbors all thanked me... they said my snow blower was the reason that they didn't have to shovel snow for those years. :)

So it sounds like you need to get that so you don’t get robbed 😂

I had it on my iPhone 13 but don’t have it on my 14. I might regret that, but who knows. I think if you’re careful and keep your phone close to you, you’ll be fine but if you travel or go on crowded subways and busses it might be worth it.

the only time that someone tried to rob me of my phone was in Cleveland. I was accompanying a family member to visit colleges. While I was waiting outside on the street, two young girls came up to me and tried to take my phone away. I wasn't paying attention and they shoved me to the ground, grabbed my phone and ran.... they were not even on the next block when one of them tossed the phone on the ground and yelled "this ain't no iPhone!" <sigh> (was a Samsung phone) I picked up the phone and its screen was shattered.

I can understand their disgust and disappointment with it being a Samsung phone…

Just kidding 🤦‍♂️😂

I’m glad you didn’t get hurt! A phone can be replaced but even injuries are more expensive to fix than an iPhone. This is why I avoid big cities like that.

Cleveland is actually a very lovely city. (minus the "bad" parts)

What’s another $3.50 a month

It isn’t an option in my country even though regular AC+ is 2x the US price.

I would recommend it if you're going to be taking out AppleCare. It's not that much more, and its added peace of mind in case the worst does ever happen...

Yep you want to maximize wasting your money with apple. Get apple one too.

How is it a waste of money? If you lose your phone, or it gets stolen you get another device without having to spend 1k+. Same goes with damage, your covered. Extended warranties are worthwhile, especially with Apple. I can simply phone them up, and have a new device in my hand the very next day. No one else offers that!

And your comment about "getting apple one too" makes no sense...

Had the coverage on my iPhone 12 Pro and thought it was on my wife’s mini but wasn’t . She dropped the phone in a lake paddle boarding . We now have that coverage on her 14 pro .

Sorry. It’s usually a waste. I’ve never had an occasion to swap out an iPhone. Others I know buy apple care with every device they get. Monthly now.

Extended warranties are worthwhile. For apple. Lol.

I always get the theft and lost. What is $3.50 extra a month? A drink at Starbucks cost more than that. Just don’t get 1 extra drink at Starbucks monthly and you will be fine.

Personally I do think the regular Apple Care Plus as well as the addition theft and loss is worth it for the peace of mind. You may never need to use it but if you do then it’s going to save you a lot of money. I use my phone quite a bit while walking outside and there’s always a chance I might have my phone grabbed out of my hand. If you get the two year advanced coverage and you sell your phone you can at least get the balance of the coverage refunded.

For you it may be waste, but if you ever need it, it wouldn’t be would it?! No one knows what may happen…

Self-insure is the better move.
It would take ~24 years of saving that $3.50/month to self-insure the theft/lost penalty of paying for a relatively new iPhone.

I'm sure that at least once in those 24 years, I'm bound to have my iPhone stolen or lost in a Uber, etc.

I didn't mean put away $3.50 each month.

I think the OP is better served taking care of replacement cost outright, should something happen. If he can't pay for a replacement phone outright, that says to me that he is living beyond his means and paying extra for loss and theft doesn't help the financial station.
