I've been quite pleased with Mojave (10.14.4) and have enjoyed exploring its new features. Somewhat of a news junkie, so naturally took a look at AppleNews on MacOS since I use it sometimes on iOS. I'm referring to the basic AppleNews, not the + version.
I kept a smallish window open with AppleNews and immediately started to see my memory usage go up. Based on my iStat Menu data, the usage is due to a process called "WindowServer". Each day this process gobbled up another 1 to 3 GB of memory. After several days it drove my memory pressure up to over 25% (it usually runs 8%). At this point my iMac slowed down when using Safari and I needed to restart the machine to release the memory used by Window Server. I have 40 GB of RAM.
I verified that there is no memory issue when AppleNews is not open.
I also use Google News constantly, and it has zero impact on memory usage over time. That is interesting - I would have thought that the native Apple application would play better with Mojave than a Google product.
Not a major issue here (I'm happy with Google News), but curious if others have run into this issue or perhaps have an explanation for it??
Thanks!
